What? A party and/or total solar eclipse.
When? April 6-9, 2024
Where? Ennis, TX
How? The impersonal forces of the universe allow the sun, moon, and earth to align. Or maybe a giant wolf will eat the sun. I'm not an astronomer.
Why? Because I miss you. Because I like you. Because I wanna share an experience with you. The story:
In 2017, Rachel and I were very excited to go see the total eclipse visible in Oregon. Having seen several partial eclipses, I thought it would be "neat," but I wasn't prepared for the completely new experience of a total solar eclipse. When the sky goes dark the temperature notably drops and for a moment you feel like you must be on some strange planet.
We immediately knew that we needed to get our friends together to share this experience, and there happened to be an eclipse in 7 years passing right over my parents' home! Now that it's only a few months out, I'd like to invite you to join us!
We'd like to encourage you to find your way to North Texas for the appropriate date. We will provide food, eclipse glasses, entertainment, and hopefully good company. Please let us know if you can make it. We'll be adding more information as time goes on.
Address and further details will be sent to those who RSVP. Please RSVP even if it's just a "I can't come" to help us plan.
Where Can I Stay?
We're delighted to have family and friends from near and far coming to our party. To help you find accommodations, we have attempted to reserve a block of hotel rooms, but local hotels were all booked. They said something about a celestial event. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There is plenty of space for tent camping on the 5 acre lot. We have some tents available to loan out for the weekend. There is a limited amount of couch space in Chez Mangus, plus a medium-sized barn which isn't air-conditioned, but does have a decent roof. We are currently looking into booking some large Glamping tents for availability on-site. The expected cost is roughly $650 for a Queen bed.
In the RSVP Notes, please mention where you intend to stay and indicate your interest level in getting a large glamping tent so we can see about getting a contract for some of those. We're looking into other options as well!

What Should I Bring?
Honestly, not much is needed. If you live nearby, I'd appreciate knowing if you're able to bring things such as folding chairs and tables. If not, please simply bring yourself and an appetite.Eclipse will begin at 12:22pm with totality from 1:40-1:44pm.
